Buffalo Regatta

Welcome to the 125th Buffalo Regatta

Towards the end of the 19th Century a group of East Londoners got together and decided a regatta would be a good idea.  133 years later the East London Boating Association has hosted that regatta 125 times.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome everybody to the oldest annual national sporting event in South Africa, the Buffalo Regatta. The local clubs under the auspices of the East London Boating Association have worked hard to create an attractive and competitive environment for your enjoyment.

As President of the East London Boating Association I urge all competitors to race well in the traditions of 133 years and wish you the best of luck and the chance to add your names to the record books.

To our sponsors Drake International, a massive thank you, the rowing community of East London and indeed South Africa salute you.  Through contributions from Drake International we have managed to upgrade the facilities and grounds for everyone’s enjoyment. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

I further wish to extend a big thank you to Dave and Lyndee Hartwanger and their organizing committee for a fine effort in putting together this event and to the officials and parents who give of their time selflessly for 3 days exposed to the elements both good and bad.

Enjoy the 125th Buffalo Regatta.

Row well.

Mark Lindstrom (President of E.L.B.A)
